Music Centres
Musicworks: Locations
Music Centres are in many deprived areas such as Bridgeton and Sighthill in Glasgow, and Craigmillar in Edinburgh - part of a major arts re-generation programme. The geographical spread covers Dumfries and Galloway, Angus, Aberdeenshire and City, Orkney and the Western Isles as well as the central belt. We are also developing links in Malawi, Aracena in Spain and feature a twinning programme with Uddevalla in Norway.
Schools and other stakeholders
Our centres also provide shorter-term programmes to cover curriculum music from age 5 to 14 and SQA Standard Grade to Advanced Higher Level. Legacies are provided through these programmes by interactive class and teacher packs and in-service training.
We always aim to complement, enhance and supplement local provision by:
undertaking extensive consultation with all local agencies and interested parties
building on and working alongside existing local music provision
developing a flexible curriculum that can be varied according to local requirements
ensuring continual liaison with participants, parents, teachers and local community leaders
arranging regular performances and concerts
ensuring local people can have their say in the priorities of the project and help with fundraising for extra curricular activities.
