MA Musical Theatre (Performance or Musical Directing)
This one-year, intensive Masters Degree looks to train advanced performers for a professional
career in Musical Theatre. We take a small cohort of students through a progressive curriculum,
involving a full working week and calendar year.
The programme supports and highlights technical development in acting, singing and
dance, providing opportunities to work with some of the most influential practitioners in the UK
and on the international scene. We believe that great Musical Theatre requires a blend of skills
rooted in solid acting technique with the emphasis on training imaginative and versatile artists
within a demanding but supportive professional context.
The course is built on refining technique in all areas of voice, acting and dance as part of
an integrated creative and artistic development. The small cohort size allows for a high degree of
one-on-one tuition and instruction. The cohort is formed into two smaller groups for techniques
classes and a range of ensemble configurations for project work.
The programme culminates in a fully supported season of professionally produced work at the
Edinburgh Fringe and an industry showcase both in Glasgow and London.
Our graduates especially praise the individual attention received and the professional
standards encountered on the MA programme, which boosted confidence and skill. As a result, former
students are currently appearing in productions in the West End, on Broadway, in regional Theatres
throughout the UK, and for the National Theatres of Scotland and Iceland as well as Scottish Opera.
