Gordon Wilson
Gordon Wilson was born in Motherwell and studied at the Royal Scottish Academy of
Music and Drama where he gained a B.A Music Performance and also studied for two years in the Opera
School. While at the RSAMD he won a Sir James Caird Scholarship to study in London with the
renowned Scottish tenor William McAlpine. He then made his operatic debut with
Opera 80 as

in Lucia Di Lammermoor and
The Duke
in Rigoletto.
A period at
Glyndebourne Festival Opera followed where he understudied major roles and
performed small principal roles. Subsequent operatic roles include for
Opera North;

in Troilus & Cressida and
Riccardo
in Verdi's Oberto. For
The Royal Opera Covent Garden;

in The Bartered Bride. He was also chosen to record the title role in Il Trovatore for
European Chamber Opera which was funded by a trust set up by Freddie Mercury to record an opera
using young singers.
Televised productions include the world premiere of Judith Weirs’ The Vanishing
Bridegroom for Scottish Opera. The role of
Mr. Blifil
in Tom Jones at the prestigious
Drottningholm Festival in Stockholm and the role of
Laca
in Jenufa for the BBC2 programme “Opera Bites”. Also for the BBC, Gordon has recorded
various contemporary compositions and has sung in “Friday Night is Music Night”.
Gordon also has a wide concert repertoire and has performed in many Gala Evenings
including for Raymond Gubbay, the “Classical Spectacular Evenings” in the major Arenas throughout
the UK.
