J Van Lierop
John is sub-principal double bass of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, prior to that he
held principal and co-principal positions in the Limburgs Symphony Orchestra (the Netherlands), the
Stavanger Symphony Orchestra (Norway) and the Swedish Chamber Orchestra. He also was a member of
the Dutch Radio Philharmonic. He studied with Thomas Martin.
As guest principal, he worked with several orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic
Orchestra in London, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, the North Neterhlands Orchestra and the
Flemish Opera. John has worked with major orchestras in Norway, the Netherlands, Sweden,
Germany, Belgium and the UK, including the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Rotterdam
Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cologne Philharmonic and the Kirov Orchestra in st
Petersburg.
Alongside his orchestral job and teaching commitments, he is in demand as a chamber music
player and recitalist. He is also specialized in authentic music having worked with musicians like
Franz Bruggen, Phillippe Herewhege, Ton Koopman and Roy Goodman.
John plays a Vincenzo Ruggieri double bass from 1690.
