CUK Research Student Conference
Curiosity as a Life Force: Practice, Pedagogy and Performance
Monday 6 November 2017, 10.45am for 11.15am – 5.30pm*
Venue: Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, 100 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, G2 3DB
Hosted by the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and held in partnership with Conservatoires UK.
Curiosity is the force that drives artists, scholars and teachers alike. This one-day conference is intended to generate dialogues and networks, and allow us to share our experiences of the key issues and challenges that we face in our research – and celebrate the unique contribution research students make to the life of UK conservatoires. Together, we will consider our practices, explore inter- and multi-disciplinary approaches, and throw light on the curiosity that drives us on.
CALL FOR CONTRIBUTIONS
Abstracts are invited for this conference from research students based at UK Conservatoires. Colleagues who attend other institutions are most welcome to attend as delegates. Presentations can take the form of a 20 minute paper or a 30 minute lecture performance (followed by a 10 minute question and answer session).
Contributions on any topic are welcome, but we particularly invite contributions from research students studying:
- Processes and methods for developing new work (dance/drama/music/music theatre/live/digital and mixed media)
- The experience of performance and performance preparation
- Traditional musics
- Pedagogy and performance education
- Socio-cultural and ethnographic studies of performance
Abstracts of c. 300 words are invited to be sent to exchange@rcs.ac.uk before Friday 6 October at 5.00pm. Please also inform us if you have any particular personal or technical requirements.
RESEARCH AT THE ROYAL CONSERVATOIRE OF SCOTLAND
Having launched in 2000, the research programmes at the Royal Conservatoire are fast approaching their twentieth anniversary; the recent launch of our DPerf programme, which enables professional artistic development at the highest level, has further broadened the range of doctoral studies at the Conservatoire: the Royal Conservatoire’s Research and Knowledge Exchange community is thriving.
In these tumultuous and sometimes divisive times, we celebrate curiosity as the ethos that unites us all: do join us.
*All delegates will be invited to attend the first of the RCS Exchange Keys, a new strand of RCS events, exploring a range of contemporary themes. Professor Julia Hobsbawm will deliver the inaugural event focusing on the Artist in Society.
