Jamie Reid

Course: Modern Ballet

Class of 2015

As one of the Modern Ballet department’s most recent graduates, Jamie has already achieved much success at the start of his professional dance career. Upon graduation, he was offered a role with Scottish Ballet in Christopher Hampson’s touring winter production, Cinderella. After performing in his first professional ballet, Jamie has now been made a permanent dancer in the company and is currently in rehearsals for Scottish Ballet’s production of Swan Lake, choreographed by David Dawson.

“The partnership between RCS and Scottish Ballet helped my learning massively. Between being able to participate in Company Class and also having the Scottish Ballet artistic staff teaching us on occasions gave a good insight into how the company worked on a regular basis. The professional level of teaching on the course and the world class standard of the studios were what helped me develop into working as a professional dancer. Also the having opportunity to collaborate with other programmes at RCS was a massive bonus!

My highlight was definitely the Graduation Performance at the end of my studies. The whole process of rehearsals and the week in the theatre gave you an insight into what it was like to work in a professional environment. After all, you are in training for three years to do this as your job every day and having this opportunity at RCS gave me the experience that is needed in a professional ballet company.”
