Hillside School gets Creative!

Hillside School pupils
James MacMillan and Matilda Brown Composers
Drake Music Scotland
Novantae Singers

In Hillside School, composers James MacMillan and Matilda Brown, alongside Drake Music Scotland and Novantae, a quartet of singers, worked with pupils who have created a programme of music they have composed themselves. The starting point for this is the wonderful vocal sounds of 16th century choral music, and in particular the beautiful anthem ‘If Ye Love Me’ by Thomas Tallis, fragments of which are woven into the new composition.

“The Cumnock Tryst’s various collaborations with Drake Music Scotland over the years have always been inspiring and emotional, showing that disability should never be a barrier to a love of, or a deeply involving engagement with, music making. We are experimenting with new directions this year, drawing on choral music. And The Tryst is delighted to relaunch our engagement with the schools in the area after the Covid restrictions.”
Sir James MacMillan
