We present a triptych of short recitals in our promenade performances on the last day of the Tryst, in the glorious neo-classical splendour of Robert Adam’s Dumfries House. Nikita Naumov, the amazing Russian double bass player, presents recent solo music and the Sirocco Winds play some 20th century wind quintets. Local children from Greenmill Primary School perform a short setting of Robert Burns, composed specially for them by Festival Director, James MacMillan.
It is a great pleasure to wander around the Palladian glories of Dumfries House, hearing beautiful music in one wonderful space after another. This is what we do on the final day of the Tryst, taking our audiences on a short tour, musically and architecturally. This is the event where we bring intimate chamber music to the Festival, with a few unexpected surprises!
Sir James MacMillan
