By Peter Arnott
Mark Thomson Director

1860s Victorian Edinburgh and its civilised beauty is awash with fine architecture and fine ladies and gentlemen. But behind the polished exterior of respectability, there is another world where sex, drugs and poverty abound. Peter Arnott’s big, sweeping play comprises class warfare, early photography and a challenging love story across those barricades. It weaves its way in and out of Edinburgh’s cobbled streets, respectable drawing rooms and opium dens to capture the tensions and duplicity of our “Athens of the north”.
