Die Fledermaus (Gala Performance)

Fri 19th May RCS, 100 Renfrew Street, Glasgow, G2 3DB

Please join us for a very special part of our 170th birthday celebrations. The much loved operetta, Die Fledermaus brings glamour, intrigue and laughter to the stage in this delightful tale of abundant disguises.

This special Gala performance includes a sparkling pre-performance reception at 6.30pm hosted by our Principal Professor Jeffrey Sharkey, a ticket for Die Fledermaus and an interval drinks reception in the Jack Bruce Space.

Music by Johann Strauss II
In an English Version by Alistair Beaton
Directed by Lee Blakeley
Conducted by Professor Timothy Dean
Designer Mark Bouman
Lighting Designer Kieran Kenning
Choreographer Kally Lloyd-Jones

Johann Strauss’ “The Bat” is a joyous romp of popular melodies, dances, wit and farcical twists and turns. Based on a late 19th century French vaudeville, it is a popular and well-known opera. However, if you dig a little deeper, you reveal some rather more unsettling themes: marital infidelity, deception, and a society on the brink.
