Transitions students were well represented in a recent collaboration between RCS, Glasgow School of Art and Glasgow University students, as part of the New Digital Creatives scheme.

Thesmall selection of talented young peoplewere thrown in at the deep end, challenged with the task of creating an eclectic, multimedia presentation in response to the large-scale Dream On initiative, which was presented at Glasgow University on 23 April 2016. The project was entitled ‘As You Like It’, using Shakespeare as a stimulus to develop ideas, culminating in the making of two short films.

Transitions Drama studentsMarissa, Sean and Amber all took part in both digital and performance workshops as part ofthe week-long event, working and sharing ideas with their GSA and GU counterparts. Marissa spoke of her experience:

“I just had such a brilliant time and it was so inspiring having all these creative and passionate people all together, sparking off ideas in one another , developing them and bringing them to life. That level of commitment, diversity and enthusiasm is exciting. It was such a privilege to work with people from many different backgrounds and it just makes anything seem possible. And we became a really close-knit wee team.”

Sean spoke of his enjoyment in adapting to the project:

“It was indeed a great experience; not like anything i’ve been a part of before. It was a flawless collaboration of so many different art forms to create one cross-media piece of work. All the participants were brilliant and it was a very relaxed and creative atmosphere from the moment we met. What I liked about it most was that my skills as an actor weren’t required so I had to quickly develop and use my skills as a contemporary artist.

The things I learned from the course has really helped me grow as an artist and I am incredibly proud with the final piece of work which we produced, and I am excited to see it be screened.”

Students had the chance to see their work screened in front of a live audience. You can view both films below:
