Our Student of the Month for May isdrama student Colby Reid. Colby has recently secured a positive destination for next year, where she will cap two years’ hard work at New College Lanarkshire by taking on an extra year to complete their BA in Musical Theatre.Colby spoke to us about her journey so far…

Transitions Route? Drama

Route specialism? Musical Theatre

What made you apply for Transitions?I thought it was an excellent opportunity, especially for the individuals who are less likely to attend suchwell-established classes such as those that I have received in my time at RCS.

The best thing aboutTransitions is…?The ability to try new things, even if they are not in your area of expertise.

The best thing aboutmusical theatreis…?The factthat I am given the opportunity to portray how someone else has felt and allow audiences to tap into that emotion and connect with it on a personal level.

Whathave youbeen learning about recently? I have been training in ensemble work and learning to multi-task between learning more than one track per show.

Greatest achievement so far? Performing as Tracy Turnblad in ‘Hairspray’ at the King’s Theatre (Glasgow), for a sold out run.

In 10 years time I will be hopefully be…? In the West End, or on Broadway. Most importantly, happy.

My role model is…? As cheesy as it sounds but my role model is my wee mum.My mum is my main reason to work hard in life because she deserves to be able to sit back and relax, knowing that now she is being taken care of for once.

If I had to eat only one thing for the rest of my life I would eat…? Hmmmm…fajitas.

If you could be an animal…? I would probably be a giraffe.

Favourite…

…book?‘Room’ by Emma Donoghue

…musician/band? Etta James or Adele.

…film or TV programme?‘Grey’s Anatomy’. I’m constantly debating whetheror not to change career path and become a neurosurgeon.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about studying musical theatre? DO IT! It’s the best things you could ever do! It will make youhappy when you’re feeling down andmost of all it will bring so much happiness into your life.
