(For ages 14 – 18)
For students who show potential and are passionate about musical theatre, the Junior Conservatoire will work with you to develop skills across the disciplines of acting, singing and dance. We hope to prepare you for further study and a career in this demanding industry.
The Junior Musical Theatre programme is split into two elements – a skills development programme and a Musical Theatre young company. Successful applicants can select to study the skills development programme only, or the skills development and young company programmes combined.
Skills development / Sundays / Sep – June / Wallace Studios Campus
There are three levels of study to this part of the programme: Levels 1, 2 and 3. Younger and more inexperienced students will need to complete Level 1 before progressing to Level 2 in the following year, and Level 3 thereafter.
Working with musical theatre professionals, your curriculum will include:
- awareness and technical ability in the body through dance
- music theory and instrumental skills to be able to read sheet music
- singing technique
- core acting skills to build on character, emotion and control of range
- textual analysis
- characterisation skills
- voice work to expand tone and range of expression
You will follow a bespoke programme tailored to your needs and also participate in ensemble work.
Junior Conservatoire Musical Theatre Young Company / Evenings / Sep – June / Wallace Studios Campus
We have designed a young company programme that will allow you to gain experience in other venues and have opportunities to perform in front of an audience across the duration of the year. This programme is particularly beneficial for those who wish to develop their skills within a performing company context.
