Contemporary Performance

Summer school for Adults

Introduction

This unique five-day summer school will provide an inspiring, supportive and challenging environment in which all students, from beginners to advanced, can explore and learn.

Led by teaching staff from the BA Contemporary Performance Practice degree programme at the Royal Conservatoire, you will create original performance which strives to better understand the world in which we live.

Using personal experiences and stories, or research into an idea or issue of interest to participants, this course offers aspiring performers an opportunity to develop their skills as innovative and socially engaged theatre-makers.

This summer school is for anyone aged 16+ who is interested in developing skills in devising and contemporary theatre. It may also be of interest for those considering studying on the BA Contemporary Performance Practice course in the future.

By the end of the course, you will have:

  • been introduced to a range of techniques useful to the devising process
  • developed an appreciation of the creative process and its relationship to a final product
  • explored key aspects of contemporary devising processes such as the use of text, movement and the ensemble
  • had an opportunity to develop personal creative ideas within a collaborative process

The deadline for booking this course is Friday 15 June 2018

Financial support

Agnes Allan Bursary

Agnes Allan was a teacher, passionate about inclusion, and this bursary scheme exists to offer support to students to participate in the performing or production arts.

The Agnes Allan Bursary provides some support to students who may require financial assistance to take part in a short course in dance, drama, music, production or screen.

Anyone who wishes to take part in our Lifelong Learning courses and faces a financial barrier can apply for bursary support to help meet the cost of tuition fees.

More information about the Agnes Allan Bursary.

James McAvoy Drama Scholarships

Bafta-winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy is committed to nurturing the creative potential of young Scots who experience barriers to access and participate in drama at RCS Lifelong Learning.

James is a graduate of the BA Acting programme at RCS and Patron of the Junior Conservatoire of Drama. The Glasgow-born actor has funded the new James McAvoy Drama Scholarships to enable young people to experience the world-class drama training at RCS as he did.

The scholarship aims to support applicants who would otherwise find meeting the cost of tuition fees at RCS a barrier to accessing pre-Higher Education drama training at the Royal Conservatoire.
