Introduction

Understanding how to ‘read’ a film in a huge step for any artist interested in a career in film. This weekend course will introduce how to critically approach a film, and analyse what the production is trying to achieve.

On these course students will learn about:

  • Important film movements throughout history, and the films which defined these movements
  • How these film movements still impact cinema to this day
  • Breakthroughs in technology
  • Use of symbolism
  • The studio system and the Hay Production code
  • Key directors, writers and actors and how they impacted the film world

Throughout the course, students will watch clips from foreign films, modern blockbusters and television shows to help assist their learning.
