Introduction

This two-day short study is ideal for adults and theatre professionals with an interest in developing their knowledge and skills of the art of applying make-up.

The course is a fantastic opportunity for those who wish to pursue a pathway to further training or explore a career in this field.

By the end of the course you will have achieved the following outcomes:

• introduced to a variety of make-up materials and their uses

• experimented with a variety of techniques to create different effects

• explored the technicalities of applying make-up specifically for stage

• gained hands on experience with the guidance of an experience make-up artist

This course is designed to help you explore and experiment with new make-up techniques and materials. It aims to introduce techniques and processes which can be transferred to your own personal practice.

Day one will introduce students to considerations required before the application of make-up. These include face shapes, skin tone/types, contouring and how to match a base colour. The course leader will demonstrate a make-up application incorporating all relevant information relating to the stage.

Day two will be hands-on for students who will have the opportunity to apply their new knowledge and skills in a practical context. The course leader will be on hand to advise and assist.

Over the two days you will be supported by the course leader to develop your own unique style of designing and applying make-up.

Financial support



Agnes Allan Bursary

Agnes Allan was a teacher, passionate about inclusion, and this bursary scheme exists to offer support to students to participate in the performing or production arts.

The Agnes Allan Bursary provides some support to students who may require financial assistance to take part in a short course in dance, drama, music, production or screen.

Anyone who wishes to take part in our Lifelong Learning courses and faces a financial barrier can apply for bursary support to help meet the cost of tuition fees.

Preparing for your course

Students are required to provide their own make-up brushes to participate in the course.

When attending the course you should dress in comfortable, loose clothing that you don’t mind getting make-up on.
