The Tollbooth (Musical Theatre for ages 8-11)

Summer School for Children

Introduction

Inspired by the film The Phantom Tollbooth this five-day summer school will enter a magical parallel universe.

Everyone is celebrating the summer holidays but what happens when it’s time to go back to school? Why do we need school anyway?

Grab your map, escape through the magic tollbooth and discover an enchanting world of eccentric characters and extraordinary adventures.

As you explore the Kingdom of Wisdom, discover a love of learning and the power of knowledge…

This course is perfect for young people who are interested in musical theatre and who would like to develop their skills in singing, dancing and acting in a fun and supportive environment. Students will also have the opportunity to work individually, in pairs, in small groups and as part of a company.

Led by expert tutors from RCS, students will work together to create a new piece of musical theatre using both existing and new songs together with a story based on their adventures.

The students will develop their performance which will be performed on the final day of the course.

By the end of this five-day course, students will have:

  • used practical exercises to develop skills in acting, singing and dance
  • explored creative methods of interpreting musical theatre
  • worked with contrasting music across different styles to respond to the stimulus
  • devised a performance using creative ideas developed in the group

Throughout the week, the young people will work towards a short, informal performance which takes place in one of the Royal Conservatoire’s venues on the last afternoon of the course.

The deadline for booking this course is Friday 8 June 2018 at 12pm
