Pursuit of Fame (Drama for ages 8 - 11)

Summer School for Children

Introduction

X-Factor, Big Brother – the fast track to being famous!

But how do we define real talent and true fame?
Where is the line between the public and the private?

This week-long summer school will use drama activities to explore what fame means in our society. Can it bring you lasting happiness? Or is it as fleeting as last week’s fashion accessory?

Led by experienced teaching artists, the young people will use their own thoughts and ideas to create an original performance using text and movement.

The course will offer a fun, stimulating and challenging experience for all regardless of previous experience.

Throughout the course participants will:

  • Increase personal confidence and creative decision making skills
  • Develop performance skills including voice and movement
  • Have the opportunity to try out their own ideas in a creative environment
  • Work towards creating an original performance

Throughout the week, the young people will work towards a short, informal performance which takes place in one of the Royal Conservatoire’s venues on the last afternoon of the course.

The deadline for booking this course is Friday 1 June 2018 at 12pm.

Financial support

Agnes Allan Bursary

Agnes Allan was a teacher, passionate about inclusion, and this bursary scheme exists to offer support to students to participate in the performing or production arts.

The Agnes Allan Bursary provides some support to students who may require financial assistance to take part in a short course in dance, drama, music, production or screen.

Anyone who wishes to take part in our Lifelong Learning courses and faces a financial barrier can apply for bursary support to help meet the cost of tuition fees.

James McAvoy Drama Scholarships

Bafta-winning and Golden Globe nominated actor James McAvoy is committed to nurturing the creative potential of young Scots who experience barriers to access and participate in drama at RCS Lifelong Learning.

James is a graduate of the BA Acting programme at RCS and Patron of the Junior Conservatoire of Drama. The Glasgow-born actor has funded the new James McAvoy Drama Scholarships to enable young people to experience the world-class drama training at RCS as he did.

The scholarship aims to support applicants who would otherwise find meeting the cost of tuition fees at RCS a barrier to accessing pre-Higher Education drama training at the Royal Conservatoire.
