Royal Conservatoire of Scotland students and staff have an opportunity to connect with climate activists attending the UN Youth Climate Summit in Milan.

Tomorrow (Thursday 30 September), RCS will link to the summit from 2.30pm to 5pm via the Climate Portal, the ten-foot, golden shipping container located to the side of the Renfrew Street campus.

The portal features a life-size screen that connects to other portals around the world, bringing together people who would never otherwise have a chance to meet, and creates the sensation of being in the same room.

Within 30-minute slots, Glasgow portal participants (individuals or in groups of up to three) can engage in open discussion with climate activists, youth delegates, fellow students and members from the UN Youth Advisory Committee for Climate Change. The slots will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis:

  • 2.30pm – 3pm
  • 3pm – 3.30pm
  • 3.30pm – 4pm
  • 4pm – 4.30pm
  • 4.30pm – 5pm

The #Youth4Climate meeting is organised by the Government of Italy in partnership with the UK. Almost 400 young people aged between 15 and 29 from 186 countries will meet to address the main urgencies and priorities of climate action.

It’s a vital precursor to the global COP26 climate change conference that takes place in Glasgow between October 31 and November 12.

The Glasgow Climate Portal will facilitate a space for these conversations and art exchanges between now and the end of November.

The British Council-supported Climate Portal provides a chance to meet people from around the world, hear about their context and share perspectives on what needs to happen next. It is also a chance for the community at RCS to discuss the role of the arts and artists in driving change.

The Climate Portal is a creative collaboration between RCS, Shared_Studios, HarrisonParrott and Scottish Ballet. The portal is home to an exciting arts and digital exchange programme with portals across the globe, including Bamako, Erbil, Gaza, Nakivale, Mexico City, Kigali and more to be announced.
