Born in Edinburgh, Finlay started dancing at the age of 5 at The Julie Mitchell Edinburgh Dance Academy where he trained until the age of 11. During this time, Finlay was a Royal Ballet Associate and had the opportunity to perform in the Kings Theatre Pantomime (Edinburgh) as a child dancer between 2008 and 2012.

He then successfully auditioned and gained a place at Elmhurst Ballet School and trained there for 3 years before choosing to return home to pursue his academic goals.   Finlay, 17, returned to full time training on the BA Modern Ballet Course, at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019 where he continued to expand his dance experiences working with different choreographers such as Jamiel Laurence, Sophie Laplane, Nicholas Shoesmith and Christopher Hampson.

During his final year at RCS, he had the opportunity to work with Scottish Ballet on 2 of their tours –  ‘Starstruck’ choreographed by Gene Kelly and Christopher Hampson, and their production of ‘The Scandal at Mayerling’ choreographed by Sir Kenneth MacMillan.

Finlay is now looking forward to seeking out professional opportunities that will deliver a successful career in the ballet industry.
