Bio:

James Quilligan graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 2015 and was a Monteverdi Choir Apprentice for the year 2018-19. He is currently at the Alexander Gibson Opera Studio at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying with Scott Johnson.

James is a recipient of The Hon. Isabel Catto, OBE, Memorial Scholarship and is grateful for the support of the RCS Trust.

Work Experience:

Since graduating, James’ operatic roles have included Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia, RCS), Gaoler (Cabildo, Grimeborn), Chrudoš (Libuše, University College Opera), Ferryman (Curlew River, Opera Xylem), Count Almaviva & Figaro (Le Nozze di Figaro, Trinity College Music Society and Magnetic Opera), Death (Holst’s Savitri, CUOS), Don Giovanni (Don Giovanni, Ensemble Orquesta) and Flemish Deputy (Don Carlos, Grange Park Opera). James has also created several roles in contemporary operas.

Roles of Achilla (Giulio Cesare, Handel), Steward (Flight, Dove) and Geôlier (Dialogue des Carmélites, Poulenc) have sadly been cancelled due to Covid-19.

Upcoming engagements include L’enfant et les sortilèges with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra conducted by Martyn Brabbins.
