Bio:

Countertenor Matt Paine is currently studying at the Alexander Gibson Opera School under the tutelage of Iain Paton.

He is a grateful recipient of a scholarship from the RCS Trust and the Crome Scholarship.

Before studying in Glasgow, Matthew graduated from the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with countertenors Michael Chance and Lawrence Zazzo. Matthew is also a former Emerging Artist at Longborough Festival where he performed as Ottone in their production of L’incoronazione di Poppea.

Work Experience:

During his time at the RCS Matt has performed the roles of Boy/Angel – Written on Skin; Orfeo – Orfeo ed Euridice; & Filch – Die Dreigroschenoper.

Recently he has recorded new works with the Red Note Ensemble, collaborating with composers and musicians at the RCS as part of their contemporary music festival PLUG. Previous engagements include Oberon – A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Scottish Opera (cover); Dardano – Amadigi di Gaula (cover) with English Touring Opera and Garsington Opera Festival where he was also an Alvarez Young Artist.
