Meet Tafar Chia Lewis; a venturesome Actress- Creator- Storyteller and pedagogical artist from Trinidad and Tobago. Tafar is currently pursuing her MFA- Classical and Contemporary Text- Acting at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She graduated from the University of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre and furthered her acting training in Los Angeles. She has notably served as a resident player of the National Theatre Arts Company of Trinidad and Tobago. In 2019 she represented her country in Carifesta as an actress in the Caribbean classic “Bitter Cassava” and voice acted in a radio drama for BBC Radio 3.
Producing drama festivals, directing community theatre productions and writing plays are markers of her artistic diversity. Tafar is the founder of Teatro Journee, a nine year old Caribbean arts-based social enterprise. She served as the lead story curator in a partnership with the museum of Antigua and Barbuda in 2019.
My artistic work seeks to discover ways to indigenize creative processes by deconstructing Caribbean, African and Indian cultural traditions for the reconstructing of societal narratives, the inciting of change and the invitation to heal.
