Steeped in Scottish heritage
Scotland’s capital city is easily accessible from Glasgow and offers a very different side to Scottish culture. Packed with history, Edinburgh has an old-world, traditional charm with iconic sites around every corner.
A must-see tourist destination, Edinburgh is a place many of our students visit, work and perform, and it is arguably the epicentre of the world’s arts scene. Every year, 12 major arts and culture festivals take place in the city, including the Edinburgh International Festival, Edinburgh Festival Fringe, the Royal Military Tattoo and the Edinburgh International Film Festival. Hundreds of RCS students, staff and graduates perform at these international events.
Each year MA Musical Theatre students perform a main stage show at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, alongside production and music students who provide the design, set, costumes, lighting, sound and music for the show. This event is always a highlight in the RCS calendar and attracts an audience of thousands, as well as five star reviews. Past performances include Avenue Q, Company and Spring Awakening. Additionally, a number of platform shows are produced at the Fringe from drama and music students and produced in top venues, including the Assembly Hall.
Most recent student work in Edinburgh includes:
- Music students singing in The Rake’s Progress at the Usher Hall alongside the Scottish Chamber Orchestra as part of the Edinburgh International Festival
- Five star reviews of RCS shows Urinetown and The Addams Family starring musical theatre students, with support from RCS musicians and production students
