Nicolette Molnár

Director of Opera

Nicolette Molnár has enjoyed a long association with the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and has been the Associate Head of Vocal Performance since September 2019. For the RCS she directed Così fan tutte, Die Lustigen Weiber von WindsorDialogues des Carmélites, and many opera scenes programmes. Alongside her directing work, Nicolette teaches Acting for Singers and regularly coaches the students. 

 

Nicolette was educated at Barnard College, Columbia University in New York City before studying opera directing under Götz Friedrich at the Hochschüle für Musik und darstellende Kunst, in Hamburg, Germany. She was a Staff Director with English National Opera from 1987 until 1994 and regularly directed the Apprentice Artist Scenes at the Santa Fe Opera from 1996 until 2005. In January 2006, she was appointed the position of the Andrew F. Mellon Arts and Knowledge Fellow for the winter term at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. 

Throughout her career, Nicolette directed many productions for international opera companies including English National Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Atlanta Opera, Lyric Opera of Kansas City, Portland Opera, Utah Opera, Opera Ontario-Canada, Castleward Opera in Belfast, Co-Opera/Opera Ireland, Dublin Grand Opera/Opera Ireland, Eduard von Winterstein Theater in Annaberg-Buchholz Germany, Lake George Opera Festival, Orlando Opera, Stadttheater Luzern-Switzerland, Wexford Festival Opera, Warsaw Autumn Festival, Wolf Trap Opera, and Caledonian Opera. 

Nicolette particularly enjoys working with young singers and has also directed productions for the Seattle Opera Young Artist Program, the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, the Royal College/Royal Academy of Music in London, De Nieuwe Opera Akademie in den Haag, as well as the National Opera Studio Showcase.
