Canadian Connection for Royal Conservatoire ballet students
Canada calls for Royal Conservatoire of Scotland ballet students who will perform at Montréal’s largest cultural and artistic complex this month.
Second year dancers on the BA Modern Ballet programme will visit the city on an exchange tripfrom April 20to 29 to collaborate with students from the Ballet Divertimento school.A new dance piece is being created for the exchange by renowned Canadian choreographer HélÃ¨ne Blackburn, artistic director of Cas Public.Berceuse pour les héros (Lullaby for the heroes)will be performedon April 28as part of Ballet Divertimento’sOdyssée printaniÃ¨reat theThéÃ¢tre Maisonneuve in the Place des Arts, a major performance arts centre in Montréal.
HélÃ¨ne’s choreography will also be performed by both sets of dancers in June during the Canadian students’ exchange visit to Glasgow. It will feature in the Royal Conservatoire’sBA Modern Ballet graduation performancewhich is staged betweenJune 8 to 10in the New Athenaeum Theatre.
The programme includes new choreographic works from Scottish Ballet’s Christopher Hampson and Sophie Laplane and the Royal Conservatoire’s ballet lecturer Diana Loosmore.
“Exchange trips are a wonderful way for students to expand their creative and professional horizons,” said Louisa Ross of the Royal Conservatoire’s BA Modern Ballet programme.
“The Montréal visit will be an enriching educational experience, giving students the opportunity to collaborate with their Canadian contemporaries and work with HélÃ¨ne Blackburn who is an internationally respected choreographer.
“It’s also exciting to hold our first Canadian auditions for the BA Modern Ballet programme in Montréal. We’re looking forward to welcoming prospective students, discovering new talent and sharing what makes the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland a unique and world-leading learning environment.”
