Big Fish

RCS presents the musical adaptation of Daniel Wallace’s novel and Tim Burton’s movie, Big Fish.

Edward Bloom’s larger-than-life stories delight everyone – much to the dismay of his pragmatic son, Will. As Edward’s health deteriorates and the realisation of a future without his father sets in, Will embarks on a journey to separate the man from the myth, and untangle the remarkable life of a Big Fish in a small pond.

Based on the Daniel Wallace novel and Tim Burton’s movie, and with a score from the composer of Broadway’s The Addams Family, this fantastical musical about love, family and the joy of storytelling is an extraordinary tale unlike any other!

Edges

From the creators of The Greatest Showman, La La Land and Dear Evan Hansen, Edges is a contemporary song-cycle which explores universal issues such as love, commitment, identity, and meaning. In a range of songs, spanning across genres and musical styles, the characters deal with confronting emotions, escaping expectations and deciphering complicated relationships.

In the modern age of social media and information overload, this charming, witty and honest examination of adulthood in your early 20s explores what happens when we are teetering on the edges of our lives, and asks who we are, and what will we become.

Edinburgh Deaf Festival

Tickets are now on sale for the second annual Edinburgh Deaf Festival. The 2023 line-up has more than 60 events including drama, comedy, film, exhibitions, entertainment for children and young people plus workshops and other activities. Taking place from 11-20 August as part of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe it gives deaf people access to the arts in a new and exciting way and allows others to discover a rich culture.

Featuring many deaf performers and facilitators from the RCS’ BA Performance in BSL and English Programme (the only programme of its kind in the UK) and a graduate from our BMus Traditional Music Programme, as well as our partners at Solar Bear, the Edinburgh Deaf Festival aims to give deaf people access to festivals in a way that they haven’t had before, and mainstream audiences the opportunity to learn about deaf culture whilst enjoying a variety of performances. The organisers and performers are encouraging hearing people to see the shows and discover the richness of deaf heritage, language and culture.

MA Musical Theatre

The Performance pathway offers an intensive blend of high-level vocational education and creative opportunities for students. The programme requires a related degree and/or related performance experience and marries together project-based learning experiences with focused skills classes in acting, voice, singing and dance.

The Directing pathway is designed to support the development of skills and creative thought for musicians with a passion for theatre. As a Masters student, you will study the musical landscape, engage in practice-based-research and explore your own potential as a contributor to the future of the art form.

These programmes are closely linked with the industry and this ensures that students acquire the practical skills to support a sustained and varied career.
