Julian Appleyard
Julian has taught at the RCS Junior Conservatoire since 1998.
Julian Appleyard studied oboe and cor anglais with Stephen West and Stéphane Rancourt at RSAMD (now RCS), winning both the Governors’ Recital Prize for woodwind chamber music and the Mary D Adams Prize for chamber music. He graduated with a BA (Hons) with a woodwind teaching endorsement and a MMus in Performance. Julian has taught at the RCS Junior Conservatoire since 1998.
After a period of freelancing with various orchestras and ensembles in and outside Scotland, Julian began teaching in Edinburgh where he works as a full-time woodwind instructor; as the oboe teacher at the City of Edinburgh Music School at Broughton High School, and at the University of Edinburgh.
Julian also works as the conductor of both Edinburgh Secondary Schools’ Orchestra and the Colinton Amateur Orchestral Society. As a coach, he has worked with NYOS, the Universities of Scotland Symphony Orchestra, and the Scottish Schools’ Orchestra Trust.
