Junior Conservatoire

Encouraging young people to fulfil their artistic potential

Welcome to the Junior Conservatoire

The Junior Conservatoire programmes offer young people their first taste of arts education in a place that is like no other.

For more than 50 years, the Junior Conservatoire has encouraged thousands of young people aged 11–18 to fulfil their artistic potential, develop essential life skills and explore a world of possibilities within the arts and far beyond.

Students can apply and audition for 11 exciting courses across music, dance, drama, production and film. At the weekends, and some evenings, students attend the Junior Conservatoire to take part in masterclasses, performances, collaborations, rehearse with friends and take part in one-to-one lessons with specialist teachers.

“Drama breaks through barriers; it can give people the tools to walk into a room and express themselves. I am delighted to be part of the opportunity for young Scots to gain access to the Junior Conservatoire.”

James McAvoy, Junior Conservatoire Drama Patron

“There is so much opportunity for the next generation of Scotland’s artists to receive training and support right here at the nation’s conservatoire. Working with the Junior Conservatoire students is inspirational for me. They really listen and have such a depth of will to want to improve.”

Nicola Benedetti, Junior Conservatoire Music Patron
