Why did you decide to audition for Juniors?
I was encouraged by my Fashion & Textile Technology Teacher in to apply, After her daughter had studied a year—She encouraged me to join as she knew all about my love for both Fashion and Theatre, and also it was a challenge from her to me to get myself out of my comfort zone & meeting new people.
The audition experience was very casual—I wouldn’t have even called it an audition. It was a conversation between me and the panel, talking about my work, my past experience before applying, and just overall how life had been going at that point in time. The interview was so short, at the end we had to quickly cram in showing my portfolio & questions, because we got so carried away!
When I received my offer, I think I cried (Dramatic, I know!). Being such a shy person before, and living in a lower class area; I never really received opportunities such as Junior Conservatoire—which was the chance to explore art & things I loved in a professional environment.
I had so many thoughts going through my head. Was everybody going to be nice? Would I meet knew people? What would I be doing each week? Where would I start? The first week we began, I felt so welcomed into the Production programme. Everybody was lovely; and already I was making new friends and exchanging phone numbers to talk after the introduction day!
What do you look forward to most on a Sunday?
Why should young people apply for Juniors?
Coming from somebody who had hardly any confidence in herself, and never was given opportunities outside of school to do art & theatre, Juniors opens the door for anybody and everyone to come and study what they love. They support you in whatever way that can, whether it’s skill building, confidence Building, financing the course, etc. Whatever problem you might encounter, Juniors has your back.
I’ve learned to be a lot more confident in myself thanks to Juniors. I’m a lot more open to taking risks than I ever was before I joined, I’m always up for a challenge, and I won’t let any barriers stop me from doing what I love; Costume.
