Dávur Juul Magnussen
Principal Trombone, RSNO
My main job is as the Principal Trombone of the Royal Scottish National Orchestra. At the RCS I teach tenor and alto trombone, and I also give wider classes in technique and musicianship for the entire brass department. I have always strived for a varied musical career, and I hope this comes across in my teaching too. I have guested with the likes of Philharmonia, LSO, various BBC ensembles, Klangforum Vienna, as well as working in other smaller settings. I appear on jazz and pop albums, have worked on the theatre stage, and have a special predilection for non-standard music in non-standard locations. As a result I have played everything from period performances to contemporary music and improvisation in sea caves, on mountain tops, across valleys, in engine rooms, on ship masts, and in helicopters!!!
