Hilary lectures for The Centre for Voice in Performance CViP at The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, having previously taught at a number of major UK drama schools including Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Mountview Theatre School, Rose Bruford College, and the Guildford School of Acting.
Her specialist remit focusses on accents and dialects and Voice for Media as well as coaching the prestigious BBC Carleton Hobbs annual Radio Drama Competition.
In 2015 she created MEDEA, a website designed specifically to help actors learn new dialects.
Hilary has a particular interest in performance stress. Past research saw her interrogate the relationship between EMDR and Nadine George Voice Work, the findings of which were shared at a number of major conferences including the British Voice Association. These insights also inform her unique and highly successful presentation skills training.
Hilary is currently part of a major Erasmus project: Change-Now! and is writing a paper on the rise of Intimacy Co-ordination, due for publication in 2023.
Internationally her profile includes workshops in Amsterdam, Warsaw and Turkey, training TV presenters for the Singapore Broadcasting Corporation, teaching accents and dialects for Flinders University and the Sydney Conservatoire in Australia, Visiting Voice Professor at The Academy of Film and Theatre in Bucharest, Master Teacher for Yell Studios in Atlanta and being invited to work with the award-winning Teatro Biuro Podrozy in Poland as voice coach on their first performance in English.
Closer to home, she has been dialect coach on numerous theatre productions including for the National Theatre of Scotland and The Royal Court. TV, film and radio work includes Lip Service (Kudos), Case Histories (Ruby Films/BBC), Waterloo Road Series 8 (Shed Productions BBC), You Instead (Sigma Films), Shamshera (Yash Raj Films) and Love, Sex, Money (BBC Radio 4). Hilary was the dialect coach on The Wife, for which Glenn Close was awarded a Golden Globe.
Recent projects include working on a major blockbuster for HBO Max, and films Sweetly It Turns and Girl, both due for release in 2023.
