John Kazak

Acting Lecturer (Play, Improvisation and Acting Projects)

John is a professional actor and director with over a decade of experience working with actors on the BA Acting programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

As an actor John has worked in major theatres across Scotland including the Traverse Theatre, the Citizen’s Theatre, the Tron Theatre, the National Theatre of Scotland, Oran Mor, the Byre Theatre, the Royal Lyceum Theatre, Dundee Rep and Perth Theatre. John has also worked with leading Scottish theatre companies including Vanishing Point, Theatre Babel, 7:84 and Grid Iron. John’s stage work has taken him to national and international stages in New York, Chicago, Poland, Hong Kong, London and Belfast. On screen, John has over thirty years of experience in tv and film.

John trained as an actor at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (now RCS) and has taught and directed at East 15 Acting School.

As a Lecturer, John uses improvisation practices and techniques to support the work of various practitioners including (but not limited to) Stanislavski and Mike Alfreds. This work is applied to text in Acting Projects using 20th century plays. Teaching interests include the works of Anton Chekhov and the fundamentals of ‘play’ for the actor.
