About

Jonathan is a director, actor and teacher from Aotearoa New Zealand, currently living in Glasgow, Scotland.

He holds First Class Honours in theatre and English literature from Victoria University and further trained at the John Bolton Theatre School and Ecole Philippe Gaulier in Étampes, France. He is undertaking his MFA Directing in pursuit of a vision of the theatre as a place of spontaneous fellowship, renewal and great entertainment.

In 2020 he directed and co-wrote A Traveller’s Guide to Turkish Dogs (NZ tour), and in 2023 directed The Importance of Being Earnest (Circa Theatre, Wellington).

Over a decade-long relationship with A Slightly Isolated Dog theatre company he co-created and performed in a series of much-loved, interactive adaptations: Don Juan, Jekyll & Hyde and The Trojan War. As an actor he has appeared in Indian Ink’s The Elephant Thief, Capital E’s An Awfully Big Adventure, and recently played Torvald in A Doll’s House (The Court, Christchurch). Jonathan has taught theatre creation skills at Toi Whaaari New Zealand Drama School, Unitec/Te Pūkenga and The Actors’ Program.
