Kai is currently Section Principal Double Bass at BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, having joined in 2023 after 18 months at English National Opera.

Kai studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London under Graham Mitchell, Tom Goodman and Dominic Seldis. During his time there, he took part in masterclasses with Matthew McDonald, Rick Stotijn, Božo Paradžik, Edgar Meyer, Joel Quarrington and Alexandra Scott. He won numerous prizes such as the Ashover Festival Prize and won the annual Double Bass Competition twice. Kai graduated with Bachelor of Music as well as receiving the Regency Award for outstanding achievement.
Kai has guest led at several orchestras including Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Royal Northern Sinfonia and Ulster Orchestra.
He was made Associate of Royal Academy of Music in 2023.
