Mabel Blair
Mabel began her ballet training at the age of six with Clare Clough School of Dance in East Kilbride. She became a Scottish Ballet Junior Associate at the age of nine, and completed Mid and Senior Associates, while at the same time training at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in the Junior Modern Ballet programme. She completed an HNC in Dance at West College Scotland before beginning her degree. Mabel has loved her time training, performing and choreographing at RCS.
Throughout her time on the course, Mabel has loved developing her classical and contemporary technique, and embracing her individuality as a performer. She has enjoyed the opportunity to work with various choreographers including Christopher Bruce, Mark Bruce and Nicholas Shoesmith, and has been able to perform at various venues including Gleneagles Hotel and the New Athenaeum Theatre. Mabel has also gained valuable experience from acting as Student Representative for her classmates throughout her three years of training, and as Student Union Representative in her final year.
Mabel was the winner of the Student Choreography competition in her first year, something which cemented her love of choreography and which she has continued to build on throughout her time at RCS. She has enjoyed opportunities to collaborate with students from the Composition department to create original dance works each year for the Plug composition festival, and is currently working with the Junior Conservatoire Young Ballet Company towards a performance of her piece, choreographed to Glassworks by Philip Glass.
Mabel looks forward to graduating with a BA in Modern Ballet in July, and is grateful for her time on the course and the friends she has made over her three years of training. She wants to thank all of the staff on the BA Modern Ballet course for their help and support during her degree, as well as her family for their unwavering encouragement throughout her training. She is looking forward to the future and plans to work as a freelance dance artist and choreographer.
