Nicolas Pereira da Silva

BA Modern Ballet, Class of 2025

Nicolas Pereira da Silva was born in Canterbury, UK. He started his training at South London Dance Studios, London before moving to the Royal Ballet School, White Lodge, and then Tring School for the Performing Arts. He started the BA in Modern Ballet programme at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland aged sixteen. After graduation, Nicolas is looking forward to joining the Serbian National Theatre Ballet in Novi Sad, where he will start his career as a professional ballet dancer.

Over his three years at RCS, Nico has enjoyed a wide range of valuable experiences and many performance opportunities such as dancing in the end of year shows, at RCS graduation, Gleneagles Hotel, and with the classical music department, including the annual Piano and Dance festival. These experiences prepared Nico to compete in the Margot Fonteyn international dance competition in 2024, where he reached the finals.

Nico also enjoyed performing with Scottish Ballet in The Nutcracker 2024/25 tour where he danced as a party guest, soldier, rat and the role of a Russian clown in the Russian divertissement.

Although he has a passion for classical ballet, the Modern Ballet programme has enabled Nico to develop his skills in different dance styles, including contemporary dance. Across the three years of the programme, he has had the opportunity to work with a number of notable guest teachers and choreographers including Mark and Christopher Bruce. This led to being engaged by Mark Bruce to work on a research and development project with the Mark Bruce Company.

Nico was also involved with the Scottish Ballet Youth Exchange dance programme in his second year of the programme where he learned different styles of dance, developed his own choreographic skills and travelled to New York City on an exchange with Move NYC.

These varied experiences have helped Nico to grow in confidence over a wide variety of dance styles and prepared him for professional life in his future career. Nico is hugely grateful to the staff at RCS, in particular his teachers and all the guest choreographers he has worked with. Their feedback and support have helped him grow, both as a dancer and personally, over his three years at RCS.
