
Teresa Romao
Teresa Barros Pereira Romão da Conceição is a Glasgow based portuguese harpist. She works as a freelance harpist, harp teacher and outreach musician in both the UK and Portugal.
Teresa performs in stages such as the Concertgebow in the Amsterdam, Tivoli in Copenhagen, Casa da Música in Porto, TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht, Muziekgebow in Amsterdam, Usher Hall in Edinburgh, Buckingham Palace in London across mainland Europe as well as in the United Kingdom and Ireland as a solo performer, in chamber groups, as a concerto soloist as well as a professional orchestral player.
Since the start of her career, she has had the chance to perform and record with orchestras such as the Royal National Orchestra of Scotland and Scottish Opera – both orchestras where she won a position in their apprenticeship schemes – Northern Ballet, the Palestine Youth Orchestra, Orquestra XXI, Orquestra do Algarve and of working with conductors such as Joana Carneiro, Thomas Søndergård, Sir Andrew Davis, Elim Chan.
She has completed her Masters in Orchestral Performance at Conservatorium van Amsterdam where she studied with Erika Waardenburg and Gwyneth Wentink and, prior to that, she completed a Bachelors of Music Degree(Hons) from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019 where she studied with Pippa Tunnell. Teresa began playing the harp at Conservatório de Música Calouste Gulbenkian de Braga with Eleonor Picas.
As a passionate Community Musician, Teresa has had the pleasure of sharing her craft and enabling others to express themselves fully though music. She often works with people with additional support needs , young children and teenagers in schools, in veteran care homes for the elderly, hospitals and cancer treatment centers, in orphanages as well as in prisons. Because of her outreach work, she is also regularly invited to give workshops and talks to share her experience on her community based work by institutions such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as part of their YOUNG RCO’22 Ambassadors for Change program.
