Brian Ferguson, actor and Head of Classical and Contemporary Text at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS), is in the running for a top TV award.

Brian is nominated in the Actor – Male category at the Royal Television Society Scotland Awards, which take place on Friday 6 June at The Old Fruitmarket in Glasgow.

Brian earned the nomination for his critically acclaimed role as Michael Rebus in the BBC’s gripping crime drama Rebus, based on the iconic novels by Ian Rankin.

He is nominated alongside Peter Capaldi (Criminal Record) and Richard Rankin, who also stars in Rebus.

In the series, Brian plays Michael, the troubled brother of Rankin’s Detective John Rebus. As Michael becomes increasingly enmeshed in Edinburgh’s criminal underworld, the complex relationship between the two brothers drives much of the show’s emotional tension.

“It’s a real honour to be recognised alongside actors whose work I admire so much,” said Brian.

“Playing Michael Rebus has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my acting career, and it is a privilege to be part of a series that showcases such powerful storytelling rooted in Scotland.”

Brian was appointed Head of MA/MFA Classical and Contemporary Text at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2024, having first joined as a teaching artist in 2022.

Since graduating from RCS in 2001, he has gone on to build a distinguished career on stage and screen.

Theatre credits span the UK’s most respected companies, including The Royal Court, The Almeida, The National Theatre of Scotland, The National Theatre of Great Britain, the Citizens Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company.

On screen, his performances on television include roles in Line of Duty, Our World War, Shetland, The Victim, and in films such as The Current War and Beats.
