City-wide call to creatives: New funding boost announced

From self-taught DJs and aspiring screenwriters to amateur theatre performers and dancers, a new funding opportunity will help Glasgow’s emerging artists take the next steps in their creative journeys.

The Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District have joined forces to establish the Make It Happen Sauchiehall Street Fund – a £5,000 pot that will help the next generation bring their ideas to life.

The fund is open to those aged over sixteen who live in the city’s Ward 10 district of Anderson/City/Yorkhill who are not already working in the arts and are not accessing or have not accessed formal arts education since the age of 16.

The five awards of £1,000 can be used to test out new ideas, stage pop-up performances or forge new collaborations.

“This fund is about recognising and supporting the creative talent and energy that exists outside the traditional pathways, and close to our Renfrew Street campus in Glasgow,” said Deborah Keogh, Head of Engagement at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

“We hope that this new fund will give people the chance to explore, grow and share their work. Applicants may have worked with community arts organisations who have nourished them creatively but are now ready to take their next steps.”

Sauchiehall Street: Culture and Heritage District is a ten-year plan funded by the National Lottery Heritage Fund, delivered by Glasgow Life in partnership with Glasgow City Council.

In bringing the street’s communities and stakeholders together, the district will create social and economic benefits for this iconic street by uncovering, animating and renewing its culture and heritage.
