Musical Theatre student Shaun Newson selected for Emma Rice Company summer residency
Second-year Musical Theatre student Shaun Newson has been selected for a summer residency with one of the UK’s leading theatre companies.
Shaun will spend a week in Somerset in July on the Emma Rice Company’s Drama School Residency, a course for students about to embark on their third year of drama school training.
Held at The Lucky Chance, the company’s purpose-built creative space in Frome, it’s an opportunity to identify and inspire young professionals on the brink of joining the industry.
The Emma Rice Company (formally Wise Children) is the theatre company created and led by the multi-award-winning director.
The company develops and presents new productions, undertakes national and international touring, and delivers an education and outreach programme that supports emerging talent.
Shaun said: “I’m really excited to be attending the Emma Rice residency this summer. It’s such a great opportunity to work with like-minded people and learn from experienced directors and creatives.
“I’m particularly looking forward to the focus on ensemble work, devising and storytelling, as well as continuing to develop my skills in performance through movement, voice and music.
“Being part of a hands-on, collaborative environment like this will be a great way to spend the summer and meet fellow actors in training across the UK.
“I think it’ll give me a strong foundation going into my final year at RCS, especially as I begin work on our third-year productions.”
It’s set to be a busy summer for Shaun, who will also perform in Dear Evan Hansen at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Shaun will play the role of Connor Murphy in Captivate Theatre’s production, which is a Fringe premiere, and runs at the Assembly Rooms.
