Opportunities for your Students
Open Days & Visiting RCS
We run in-person, on-campus open days for our undergraduate programmes throughout May (School of Music) and October (School of Drama, Dance, Production, and Film) which allow prospective students to find out more about studying at RCS.
We also offer tours every Monday, which give an inside look at the campus for anyone who’s interested but can’t make an open day!

Fair Access
Fair Access at RCS is about ensuring that people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to study in performing or production arts education. Fair Access are specifically funded to promote and provide fairer access to Higher Education. The team prioritise working with people who are one or more of the following:
- Living in a SIMD1 postcode (visit the postcode checker on the Fair Access microsite)
- Care experienced
- Estranged from parents or carers
Fair Access provide a range of opportunities from taster sessions to more advanced activities in preparing for higher education courses, working with some of the best artists and teachers across the UK. We believe that the performing and production arts needs voices from different backgrounds.

The three main Fair Access initiatives here at RCS are detailed below:
Widening Access to the Creative Industries (WACI)
Widening Access to the Creative Industries provides entry-level short courses, workshops, masterclasses and information and guidance for school pupils in the West of Scotland. You can find out more information on the WACI website.
Transitions
Transitions is an auditioned programme for people with talent and potential to help them prepare for undergraduate study at RCS. Transitions is for all people across the whole of Scotland with no upper age limit. You can find out more on the Transitions website.
The Fair Access Outreach programme
The Fair Access Outreach programme works closely with communities to provide open-access workshops and opportunities for people to engage in drama, dance, music, production and film.

Junior Conservatoire and Summer Schools
For more than 50 years we’ve been encouraging thousands of young people to fulfil their artistic potential, develop essential life skills and explore a world of possibilities within the arts and far beyond.
Our Junior Conservatoire students are nurtured and empowered to be the best they can be in a vibrant, happy and encouraging environment where supporting young people is at the heart of everything we do. Our students access specialist training across the performing and production arts from world-class teachers and visiting artists who are leaders in their particular field. Students study with us each week during the academic year and, as well as developing their artistic skills, they also meet other young people who share their passion for the arts, have fun and make friends for life.
Our short courses department also offer Summer Schools which are open access and there are courses available in person as well as online. The varied programme has something for everyone and covers dance, drama, musical theatre, music, film and production. The courses are aimed at both beginners who want to experience their first taste of the performance and production arts, and experienced students who want to further develop their skills.
Summer Schools and Junior Conservatoire also give young people who are considering undergraduate study at RCS the chance to experience studying here before applying.

Opportunities for You
Short Courses
Our Short Courses give you the chance to learn new skills or develop and deepen your professional practice, with expert tuition from leading industry lights.
We offer an inspiring and varied programme for adults age 16+ which include Weekly Classes, Short Study Courses, Audition and Interview Preparation, Credit-Rated and Summer Schools throughout the year. Classes are run both in person at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and also online, meaning you can access them no matter where you are based. All classes will challenge you to develop your skills and creativity, and offer the chance to meet like-minded people in a supportive environment.
Hundreds of adult learners from across the world engage with Short Courses each year, either for professional development or simply to learn new skills and try something fun. As a student at Scotland’s national conservatoire, you will benefit from studying in a friendly and supportive atmosphere where students are encouraged to realise their aspirations, develop their skills and explore their potential.
Postgraduate Degree Programmes
If you currently have a responsibility for teaching or facilitating learning in an arts context, we have a number of part-time, blended learning programmes that may be of interest to you.
Part-time study means that you can study the programme alongside and through your existing professional roles. On paper, the study hours nominally equate to around 8-14 hours a week. For our MEd and PG Cert, much of the study is situated in your current practice, so a great deal of this time is likely to be undertaken as part of your everyday work.
Blended learning means that these programmes are delivered through a blend of face-to-face weekend seminars, online classes and one-to-one tutorials. Over the academic year we have six days of face-to-face seminars (delivered over four weekends). We have live online classes running approximately every second Thursday evening. Non-UK students have the option to attend all weekend sessions remotely. All other tutorials are arranged to suit your availability.
- MA Psychology in the Arts (Music)
- MEd in Learning and Teaching in the Arts
- PG Cert in Learning and Teaching in the Arts
The MA Psychology in the Arts (Music) has been created for students who want to explore the role music plays within our lives and understand its significance, and influence on the human psyche.
This cross-disciplinary programme is the first of its kind in Scotland, and RCS is the only UK conservatoire to offer a Master of Arts postgraduate degree in this rapidly growing area. It has been developed as a part-time, online blended learning programme to enable students from across the globe to study alongside professional commitments.
Health and wellbeing are at the core of this two year programme. Supported by a team of experienced music psychologists, you will explore three key areas of music psychology (developmental, performance and social) and associated research skills before embarking on a bespoke negotiated research project.

This part-time 180-credit programme provides a unique opportunity for arts educators to upgrade their teaching qualifications and obtain a Masters qualification that has been designed to develop teaching skills for the arts.
The programme is designed to allow arts education professionals to integrate their studies within their professional teaching contexts. The process of professional enquiry that underpins all modules requires students to engage in a sustained critical analysis of their teaching and arts practice in order to identify and address their own developmental priorities at each stage.
The programme culminates in a self-designed, self-generated, major-scale project that is intended to help students make a significant contribution to their learners and their professional sector.

As a participant on this programme you will join a vibrant and diverse community sharing in a journey of professional enquiry designed to enhance your practice as an arts educator.
This part-time 60-credit programme provides a unique opportunity for arts educators to upgrade their teaching qualifications and obtain a PG Cert qualification that has been designed to develop teaching skills for the arts.
The programme is designed to allow arts education professionals to integrate their studies within their professional teaching contexts. The process of professional enquiry that underpins all modules requires students to engage in a critical analysis of their teaching and arts practice in order to identify and address their own developmental priorities at each stage.
