Aiesha Marr

Care Experienced and Estranged Students Advocacy Worker

Aiesha’ role is to support students who are care experienced and/or estranged from their families. She has lived experience, so this is a very important part of who she is and how she approaches her work. She knows how much it can mean to have someone who listens, understands, and can sit alongside you without judgement. She hopes she can be that person for the students she works with.

She has lived experience, so this is a very important part of who she is and how she approaches her work. She started out studying Acting & Performance, which eventually led her into community theatre. She loved creating drama workshops and using creativity to explore different social issues, experiences and themes.

Aiesha then went back to university and studied Community Development, which led her into a lot of different roles and experiences. She has been working alongside care experienced and estranged people since she was 17, including in youth work, homelessness and addiction services, supporting young carers, refugees, housing, amongst other areas.

She has also had a little adventure into the world of film, working in film for around three years and doing some freelance production work. Later on, she trained in counselling, although she left during her diploma when she became a kinship carer for her younger sister.

Outside of work, you will most likely find Aiesha somewhere in nature. She loves being outdoors and being around trees. She enjoys painting and collecting natural materials, especially little stones she finds near rivers or beneath trees. Aiesha is fascinated by Celtic mythology, anything fae, magical or witchy and a big believer in the importance of finding joy in the little things.
