Brian McGinley
Brian is Principal Trumpet with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra and has appeared as Guest Principal with all the Scottish orchestras, and various ensembles within and outside the UK. He has always had a passion for music education, having taught at RCS Juniors since 2014, at Aberdeen City Music School and the North East of Scotland Music School.
Born in Glasgow, Brian McGinley studied at RCS Juniors before completing a Bachelors and Masters degrees at RCS, and has undertaken further private study with Håkan Hardenberger, Bo Nilsson and Kristian Steenstrup.
He is Principal Trumpet with the Scottish Ballet Orchestra and has appeared as Guest Principal with all the Scottish orchestras, Royal Northern Sinfonia, Northern Ballet, Ulster Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra of Ireland and further afield with the Oslo Philharmonic, Bergen Philharmonic, Stavanger Symphony and Den Norske Opera & Ballet in Norway. He has also worked with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, RTE Concert Orchestra, Frankfurt Opera, Teatro Regio Torino, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen and Solistes Européens Luxembourg. He is also active in commercial recording having featured on various TV, film and video game soundtracks.
Outside of orchestral performing Brian has worked with the Wallace Collection, Red Note Ensemble, Hebrides Ensemble, Paragon Ensemble and has performed numerous concerti and solo works including those by Haydn, Telemann, Copland, HK Gruber and James MacMillan.
Brian has always had a passion for music education, having taught at RCS Juniors since 2014, he has also taught at Aberdeen City Music School and the North East of Scotland Music School; with many of his students going on to study at the majority of UK Conservatoires and successfully gaining places on NYOGB, NYOS, NYBBGB and NYBBS.
