Christopher Baxter

Lecturer, Collaborative Piano

Christopher holds posts as staff pianist at the University of Edinburgh, accompanist at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and piano teacher and accompanist at the specialist music school of Douglas Academy in Glasgow. As an examiner for the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, he has travelled extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Asia.

Christopher Baxter is in constant demand as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral pianist, and has given performances throughout the UK and at international festivals in France, Italy the Faroe Islands, China, South Korea and Singapore. 

Alongside a broad solo repertoire spanning the 1600s to the present day, Christopher has many long standing chamber music partnerships, and from the outset of his professional life, a devotion to contemporary music has seen him involved in the premiere performances of numerous works by many notable composers.

Hailing from Aberdeen, Christopher began his musical studies there with Marija Markovich and then Robert Howie at the Aberdeen City Music School.  He continued at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, where he was a prize-winning student and was tutored by Aaron Shorr, Graeme McNaught and Fali Pavri, as well as receiving regular coaching from renowned pianist Nigel Clayton.

As an accompanist, Christopher has been involved in several international instrumental and vocal competitions and festivals, and activities as an educationalist have seen him give masterclasses, seminars on piano technique and talks on repertoire across the globe, most notably in China, Hong Kong and India.
