Indira Grier
The recipient of several international prizes, cellist Indira Grier is highly regarded as both performer and teacher. As a soloist and chamber musician she has performed at major festivals and venues including Verbier Festival, IMS Prussia Cove, Wigmore Hall and St. John’s Smith Square.
The recipient of several international prizes, cellist Indira Grier is highly regarded as both performer and teacher. As a soloist and chamber musician she has performed at major festivals and venues including Verbier Festival, IMS Prussia Cove, Wigmore Hall and St. John’s Smith Square. Recent collaborations have been with pianists Daniel Lebhardt and Ariel Lanyi, and she has worked with numerous renowned artists including Ashley Wass, Simon Crawford-Phillips, Andrew Marriner and the Castalian Quartet. Last season included performances of Schumann, Dvořák, Elgar and Finzi concertos. An experienced and dedicated teacher, Indira has worked at both the Senior and Junior Departments of the Royal College of Music and currently teaches at the Yehudi Menuhin School for exceptional young talents.
A prizewinner at the Royal Overseas League Competition, The Hattori Foundation, the Tunbridge Wells International Competition and the Bromsgrove International Competition,
she was also twice awarded the Guilhermina Suggia Gift and was a Making Music Young Artist. Indira studied with Alexander Chaushian at the Royal College of Music, London, where she won the RCM Concerto Competition, performing the Elgar Concerto with the RCM Symphony Orchestra, and the RCM Unaccompanied Bach Prize. Previously she was taught by Melissa Phelps, and then by Troels Svane at the Musikhochschule Luebeck. She participated regularly in masterclasses with David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Steven Isserlis and Thomas Ades. In addition to her playing, Indira read English Literature at UCL.
