Katrina Lee

Violin Lecturer

Katrina Lee, a Yorkshire-born Violinist, is a distinguished alumna of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. She graduated with first-class Honours in 2014 and earned her Master of Music in 2016, studying under Andrea Gajic. Her academic journey was marked by numerous accolades, including the Hilda Bailey award, Ian D Watt award, Governors Prize for Strings, Robert Highgate Scholarship, and the Governors Prize for chamber music.

Katrina’s notable performances encompass a repertoire that includes Prokofiev’s 2nd Violin Concerto, Mozart’s Violin Concerto in G major, and Tchaikovsky’s Violin Concerto, where she showcased her talent with the RCS Symphony Orchestra and the Thomas Coates Orchestra. She received the prestigious Goldman award from the Musicians Company to support her studies at the Royal Conservatoire and a special prize from the Königin Sophie Charlotte Violin Competition in Mirow.

In 2017, Katrina assumed the role of Principal 2nd Violin with the orchestra of the Scottish Ballet, gaining proficiency in the rich ballet repertoire, including renowned compositions like Swan Lake, Nutcracker, and Prokofiev’s ‘Cinderella.’ When not in the ballet pit, she can be found freelancing with renowned orchestras such as the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Scottish Chamber Orchestra, RSNO, and has lent her talents to orchestras across the UK, including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, and the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic.

Katrina’s passion for chamber music is evident in her participation in several ensembles, including the Lee-Horvath Violin and Piano Duo, Senary ensemble, Isola String Quartet, and the Escocia Violin and Guitar duo. Her dedication to music has taken her around the world, with performances in New York, South America, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada, Iceland, Italy, and Prague, among other places.

Outside of her musical pursuits, Katrina finds joy in cooking for loved ones, hula hooping, and cherishing moments with friends and family. She plays a modern violin (2003) inspired by Guarneri del Gesu, crafted by Andrew Fairfax, and uses a bow (1955) created by Louis Henri Gillet.
