About

L.A. Mars (they/them) is a non-binary director, producer, and company manager who specializes in new work and theatre as political activism.
Originally from North Carolina, Mars is passionate about theatre that is both accessible and revolutionary; they aim to reach disparate minds and inspire change through empathetic theatre. Favored themes and genres include historical fiction, the intersection of queerness and race, and classical reinterpretation.
They earned their B.S. in Media Production from Drexel University’s Custom-Designed Major program and are an alumnus of The Barrow Group’s One-Year Directing program, where they studied under Seth Barrish and Lee Brock.
They are a founding member of Wolfsmouth Players Company (WPC) and currently serve as Co-Artistic Director. Established in 2021, Mars has directed and produced one staged reading and six full productions of new work with the ensemble. Through WPC, they have collaborated with WP Theater, the Tank, and Theater for the New City; they have also directed work in the Philadelphia, Brighton, and New Zealand Fringe Festivals.
Recent non-profit leadership and company management work includes Carolyn Dorfman Dance and the National Asian American Theatre Company. Mars holds previous experience in journalism and has worked in video production across brands including Time Magazine, Sports Illustrated, Vogue, and more.
