Lecturer in Performance and Fiddle

Self-taught fiddler Marie Fielding is lecturer in Performance and Fiddle, Traditional Music at R.C.S. Her role is to nurture uniqueness and innovation, guiding the students on their journey as a person and musician, building resilience, confidence, identity, performance style and much more.

Marie’s teaching approach is holistic, encouraging her students to be curious and take musical risks to discover the unknown. Marie is also part of the team responsible for Principal Study Syllabus content and updating.

Aside of teaching, Marie is a highly successful award-winning performer, composer, recording artist, Trad Mentor , previous External Examiner for Leeds College of Music, Examiner for Traditional Music Graded Exams and performs with many bands, regularly appearing on BBC Scotland, BBC Alba amongst other radio shows.

Her latest album released during Lockdown, THE SPECTRUM PROJECT, explores being “in the moment, searching for response, rather than a planned format…so no rehearsing beforehand. Marie also designed the artwork, using one of her own paintings and has published 4 books of original compositions.

Hobbies include walking, swimming, painting, ceramics, photography, reading, cooking.
