Tom Bolam

MA Musical Theatre: Musical Directing Class of 2026

About

Tom Bolam is a musical director and performer from Staffordshire. In 2022, he graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a BA in Musical Theatre with a desire towards actor-muso works, combining his love for music and theatre. Following this, he worked nationally in productions such as the New Vic Theatre’s widely-received Christmas production of Alice In Wonderland directed by Theresa Heskins – a local theatre and director that has been on his career wish-list since his teenage years. Tom has also worked internationally, his first job after graduation being primary vocalist and vocal captain for The Experience Department within their Holiday Village: Ibiza. Most notably, he was part of the Norwegian Encore’s 6.0 cast of The Choir of Man where he portrayed The Maestro, highlighting both his piano skills and detailed vocal work.

Throughout the years, Tom felt drawn to musical direction, starting his journey at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for the A-Team Productions of Rock Musical (working title, 2020), Little Shop of Horrors (2021) and Bonnie & Clyde (2022). He has worked as a pit musician (Keys/Drums) for productions such as, Stoke Youth Musical Theatre Company’s Bonnie & Clyde (2023) and Spring Awakening (2024), Perth Amateur Operatic Society’s The Wedding Singer (2022), as well as numerous fundraising concerts and charity events for those respective companies.
In 2024, he directed SYMTC’s We Will Rock You: young@part (2024), completing a full-circle career moment working with a company that first sparked his love of theatre and music back in 2012 up until his leaving in 2019.

Wanting to continue his MD journey, in 2024 he studied and successfully graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland with a PGDip in Musical Direction. During this training, he was involved in A Christmas Carol – a collaboration with the BA in Performance course creating an adaptation completely using British Sign Language – and worked alongside RCS’ Junior Conservatoire for the “Young Arts Festival 2024” musical theatre showcase as a musical director and arranger. Using this momentum, Tom started his studies in the MA in Musical Direction in 2025 where he is hoping to develop both his love for and skills within musical theatre and become a musical director.
